PHAETHON Delegation Attends Financial Management Training at Technical University of Denmark

A delegation from the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence attended a specialised Financial Management Training hosted by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) at its Risø Campus between 8 and 10 June 2026.
Organised within the framework of the PHAETHON Teaming Project, the three-day training formed part of the Centre’s ongoing capacity-building activities and knowledge-transfer programme with its Advanced Partners. The training aimed to strengthen institutional expertise in financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and project financial management, drawing on DTU’s extensive experience in managing large-scale research and innovation activities.
Throughout the training, participants were introduced to the financial administration structures and practices employed at DTU, gaining valuable insights into budgeting and accounting processes at different organisational levels, from individual projects and research units to divisions and departments.
Particular emphasis was placed on financial management within the context of European-funded projects, including Horizon Europe. Sessions covered EU financial rules and regulations, project budgeting approaches, portfolio and resource management, as well as lump-sum funding models and their practical implementation.
The programme also explored financial monitoring, forecasting, and reporting practices, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of the tools and methodologies used to support effective financial governance within a leading European research institution.
In addition to the training sessions, the PHAETHON delegation had the opportunity to visit selected research facilities at the DTU Risø Campus, gaining first-hand insights into the infrastructure that supports the university’s world-class research activities.
The PHAETHON trainees consisted of Chief Financial Officer Polycarpos Mylordos, Project Manager and Finance Officer Timothea Oikonomidou, and Project Manager Kyriaki Savva.
PHAETHON would like to express its sincere appreciation to DTU trainer Martin Skude Rasmussen for delivering a comprehensive and highly informative programme, as well as to the DTU team for their warm hospitality and continued support in fostering knowledge exchange and institutional development within the Consortium.
The training represents another important step in strengthening the operational and administrative capacities of the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence as it continues to enhance its financial management capabilities and advance its journey towards research and innovation excellence.
