Groningen Sustainability Conference 2027: Call for Abstracts and Session Proposals

Turning Lessons from the SDGs into Action

What have we learned from more than a decade of working with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and what needs to change as we approach 2030?

Organised by the University of Groningen, GSC 2027 builds on the University’s interdisciplinary research and international engagement in areas including sustainability science, energy transitions, governance, health and well-being, and digitalisation. The conference will bring together science and academia, policy and governance, the private sector, and civil society to reflect on what has worked, what has not, what can accelerate progress towards 2030, and what should guide sustainable development beyond it.

Taking place five months before the final UN SDG Summit in September 2027, the conference provides a timely platform to contribute ideas, evidence and partnerships to the wider discussion on future sustainability agendas, while supporting action in the remaining years of the SDGs.

PHAETHON’s contribution

PHAETHON will contribute sessions at the intersection of energy and sustainable development, including smart energy communities, active energy citizens, AI for the energy transition, renewable energy integration, energy storage, flexibility and energy efficiency.

Further details will be shared as the conference programme develops.

The conference welcomes theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented contributions from academic and non-academic communities. Practitioner experience, implementation perspectives and civil-society contributions are also welcome.
