The PHAETHON Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus is organising the Founding Workshop of the EMMENA Sustainable Energy Research and Innovation Platform, to be held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 9–10 November 2026.
Under the theme: “Convening regional stakeholders to shape a collaborative framework for sustainable energy research, innovation and capacity building across the EMMENA region”, the Workshop will bring together representatives of universities, research institutions, innovation organisations, government bodies and other relevant stakeholders from across the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.
The initiative seeks to establish a Sustainable Energy Research and Innovation Platform that will strengthen regional cooperation, facilitate knowledge exchange, promote researcher and student mobility, support the development of joint research activities and proposals, and address common challenges and opportunities in the field of sustainable energy.
The Workshop is envisioned as an important first step towards defining a shared vision and framework for long-term collaboration among institutions across the EMMENA region. Through dialogue and the exchange of perspectives, participants will have the opportunity to contribute to shaping the objectives, priorities and future activities of the Platform.
Cyprus, situated at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, offers a natural meeting point for fostering cooperation and building lasting partnerships among regional stakeholders. Through this initiative, PHAETHON CoE aims to facilitate the development of a collaborative network that advances research excellence, innovation and sustainable development throughout the region.
Additional details regarding the programme, logistical arrangements, and registration process are forthcoming.
